A known heritage photographer approached us to design a farm house for him and his artist son, on the outskirts of Vadodara. The site was a large piece of land with no distinct feature. The Client’s requirements were a living area, open kitchen connected to dining room, a bedroom for him, a bedroom for his son with a studio space in close proximity, and a bedroom for occasional guests. He also had a clear idea of a peripheral verandah connecting all rooms, opening to a central courtyard with a splash pool.

After studying the site and its immediate context, we proposed a concept with vaults to make the roof structure self supporting, thereby keeping the budget in control and also ensuring that a climate responsive strategy can be incorporated for all areas.
