This project is a proposal for a commercial development on Dr. Yagnik Road, which is the main shopping spine of Rajkot. This road comprises of buildings which are not more than four or five storeys, and because of this, many developers have proposed commercial projects with more or less the same planning strategy – Ground, First and Second floors to be sold as Shops / Showrooms, and the rest of the floors to be Office spaces. The key point being utilization of maximum floor area for Ground floor, as that yeilds the maximum profits.

All units on the Ground, First and Second floor face the main road for maximum visibility. But the western edge facing the secondary road, will be subjected to harsh sunlight, hence the proposal to use a dynamic screen which acts a shading device, while also providing a distinct character to the project.

This screen is designed in a way that it cuts most of the direct sun light entering the corner units. The screen modules are strategically placed at an angle in a way that they allow indirect sun light to enter the space, while also providing the end users views of the busy road.

The main facade is divided by slicing planes, which were based on the structural grid required for the column free shops. The access to staircase and the elevators are planned on the eastern edge which opens to the neighbourhood level street.
