The Clients for this project are one of the leading manufacturers and exporters of precision engineering turned components. They purchased this plot of land on the outskirts of Jamnagar, with the idea of getting all their operations under one roof. The plot was oddly shaped, so we identified a zone which could fit the largest possible rectilinear shop floor, measuring roughly 1 lakh square feet, which was more than enough for the Client’s current and immediate future expansion requirements. Apart from this main floor, there are three identical ancillary blocks – first block to accommodate all services in a single location, second block to house the washing / cleaning facility for the produced components, and the third block for common canteen / dinning facilities.

The main shop floor is a well lit and ventilated space for all machines to work in tandem, thereby streamlining the production process. The skylights are strategically placed in a staggered formation to ensure a uniform quality of natural light.

The three identical ancillary blocks exhibit an introvert massing expression as most functions that they house require minimum exposure to the harsh climate. Over head slit openings are strategically placed to allow controlled penetration of ventilation and natural light.

A secondary grid is suspended from the roof structure to house the electrical and lighting lines, for reconfigurable connections to the machines on the shop floor. These suspended members are designated colour wise; yellow for lighting fixtures and the rest for electrical supply lines.
